The Tulip

Written by John Teague

She had way of turning a phrase

Had a voice like a lion

Eyes like diamonds

She was rock in roll in 1990

Elvis Presley couldn’t move like her

She was set to take over the whole wide world

She was magnetic groovy stellar

Might as well been a movie star

Whoa It's hard to blend in

When the edges are so damn obvious

Whoa you can tie your tongue

You're a tulip among magnolias

You can doubt it

No way around it

This town's a black hole

And it’s got you surrounded

She bought a ticket on a one way plane

Got that big city calling

Gucci and Prada

Trade those tennis shoes in for high heels darlin

Janis Joplin wouldn't do it like her

All this posing for the camera till her eyeballs blurry

Turn your head, hit the mark

Till she’s beggin' for a back door

Whoa It's hard to blend in

When the edges are so damn obvious

Whoa you can tie your tongue

You're a tulip among magnolias

You can doubt it

No way around it

This town's a black hole

And it’s got you surrounded

These circles

 Are getting smaller

She’s Getting further

From where it all began

Back home shes just a Polaroid princess

Stuck in a plastic picture frame

Whoa It's hard to blend in

When the edges are so damn obvious

Whoa you can tie your tongue

You're a tulip among magnolias

Whoa It's hard to blend in

When the edges are damn obvious

Whoa you can tie your tongue

You're a tulip among magnolias

You can doubt it

No way around it

This town's a black hole

And it’s got you surrounded
